Teaching Method for youth
I encourage parents to attend beginners’ lessons and to supervise their practice. Every student has an assignment book in which I write as precisely as possible what I expect them to achieve during the week.
I count on feedback from my students and their parents to tell me if I assign too much or not enough. I encourage my students to participate in recitals and competitions, but only if they wish to.
I am a native French speaker so I am always happy to give lessons in French if requested.
Many of my students have passed the Certificate of Merit Program with honors, receiving outstanding comments from the jury. Quite a few were laureates of the following competitions: the Junior Bach Festival, East Bay Music Foundation, Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Bay Area Music Association, San Francisco Chopin Competition for Young Pianists and US International Open Music.
Here is a video of one of my students, Scarlet Chan, who has been successful in several competitions.
To me, of most importance is the desire to improve one’s ability to discover, to learn and later to be able to share the beauty, poetry and the excitement of classical music. This involves discipline, motivation and multi-tasking, but the reward is immense and lasting. One’s very own personal approach to music is what is irreplaceable and invaluable.
